How to choose the right size, shape and colour bow tie

Here is some tips and suggestions to help you select the right bow tie:

  1. Shirt and jacket collar. First of all, take into account the size of your shirt collar and the width of lapels of your jacket. If a shirt collar is small and lapels are slimmer, opt for a smaller size bow tie. While a larger collar can take a larger bow tie.
  2. Proportions. If you have a broader neck and larger facial features, choose a large (taller) bow tie, and conversely, if you have a slimmer neck and smaller facial feature, smaller size bow tie will look better on you. However, personal style and preference play a significant role, so choose what you feel most comfortable and confident.
  3. Colour. A bow tie colour should complement the outfit, not overwhelm it. A bow tie will attract attention so choose colour which complement the colour of your eyes and hair and at the same sits in harmony with the colours of your shirt and suit.
  4. Occasion. Style and formality of an event will dictate the colour and size of a bow tie you choose. For black tie events a silk or velvet black or white bow tie is a must. For weddings, a larger or brighter bow tie with floral or vintage pattern may be more suitable.

Hope this helps!
